QuickBooks Self-Employed is going away
The self-employed expense tracker that knows what to set aside for taxes.
ExpenseDuck is a self-employed expense tracker for solo freelancers who file a Schedule C. Your purchases land in Schedule C categories, and your business drives are logged at the IRS mileage rate. The app also keeps a federal set-aside number current all year, counting your whole household. Coming from QuickBooks Self-Employed? Your transactions and mileage import, so your year stays whole.
- No credit card required
- One plan, $14.99/mo
- Imports your QBSE data

Four QuickBooks Self-Employed problems ExpenseDuck fixes
"Where did my miles go?"
QuickBooks Self-Employed users have posted on Reddit about trips that never logged. Finding out at tax time means the deduction is already gone.
Here, every drive is logged, and you know the moment a trip fails to record.
"Why did it categorize it like that?"
The auto-sort was a mystery. You couldn't see the reason, so you ended up checking everything by hand anyway.
Here, every auto-sort shows its reason. Fix a miss in one tap, and it learns.
"If I switch, do I lose my history?"
Years of transactions and mileage feel trapped in a tool that's shutting down. And waiting doesn't help. Getting your data out only gets harder as QBSE winds down.
Here, your QBSE transactions and mileage import in minutes. Your year stays whole.
"What do I owe in April?"
The worst part of freelancing is guessing at your tax bill and hoping you saved enough. Guess low, and the IRS adds an underpayment penalty on top.
Here, your federal set-aside number is on screen every day.
Now picture this
April is just another month
You open the app and your set-aside number is right there. It counts your freelance profit, your day-job W-2, and your spouse's income too. Your miles are logged and your receipts are matched to purchases, so when your CPA asks for your Schedule C, you send one file.

Know your quarterly tax number all year
Many expense trackers stop at the expenses. ExpenseDuck also answers the question that keeps you up at night: "how much should I set aside?"
- Counts your whole household: freelance profit, W-2 wages, and tax already withheld. Even a spouse's income, if you file jointly.
- Updates your federal estimate as money moves, so you aren't guessing each quarter.
- Shows the smallest safe payment under IRS rules, so you avoid a penalty without over-saving.
That number is the reason we built ExpenseDuck.
ExpenseDuck produces estimates. It does not give tax advice or file your taxes. Consult a licensed tax professional for your specific situation.

What ExpenseDuck doesn't do
Tax estimates are federal only, so state tax isn't in your set-aside number. ExpenseDuck never files your taxes; you or your tax pro file the return. It doesn't process payments either. Clients pay you directly, by check, ACH or transfer.
It isn't double-entry accounting software, and there's no Android app. ExpenseDuck runs in a web browser on a phone or a desktop. iPhone support is coming soon, pending App Store approval.
